How the PowerSharp Sharpening System Works

Oregon PowerSharp

Oregon PowerSharp

Oregon PowerSharp

Step 1:

Plug the CS1500 chainsaw into an outlet (make sure the outlet’s circuit is rated for 15 amps).

Step 2:

Engage the trigger and then pull back the red lever. This causes the chain to contact the internal sharpening stone.

Step 3:

Hold the trigger and keep the lever pulled back for 3 to 5 seconds to sharpen the entire chain, and then release. After 3 to 5 seconds, the chain works like new.

Corded Electric is the way to go for big jobs

Corded Electric is the way to go for big jobs
15 AMP 18-inch Corded Oregon Chainsaw – Homeowner and Firewood getter…First use was a 6-hour torture test. Cut seven tree’s in 10” to 14” thickness. Some were hardwoods, and others were pines. There were a couple of dozen smaller trees and shrubs with some aggressive pruning on many others. All total, the saw cut about 90 yds of slash and about a cord of firewood. The saw ran for hours non-stop.I did this all with a generator. The saw runs fine on a Honda 2000 13.3 Amp generator. It never blew the breaker, but I suggest you turn off the Eco-Throttle, so the generator doesn’t have to ramp up every time you pull the trigger on the saw. I’m not sure it would work with anything less than a 13.3 amp generator. We put two tanks of fuel through the generator for about 6 hours of run time.POWER - It cuts as fast as my Homelite 45cc 18-inch gas saw. It didn’t feel any slower. It wasn’t bogging any more or less than my gas saw either. Its also very quiet. I didn’t need hearing protection.SELF SHARPENER - I was skeptical of the blade sharpening system, but I will never buy another saw without this feature. A quick 3 or 4-second press on the sharpening button, and the saw cuts like butter again. I can’t say enough good things about this feature. Every saw should have this feature.TOOLESS CHAIN TENSIONER – Is another great feature, but you have to keep an eye on it. The adjustment knob locking wheel will sometimes back out. It’s a finger twist setup, and I don’t have as much torque in my fingertips as I used to. When the locking wheel comes loose, the tension adjuster can back out, and you lose tension on the chain. Once you realize this is a possibility, you will start to tweak on the lock out of habit to prevent this. Stronger hands may have different results. The convenience this feature affords cannot be denied. Again, this will become a must-have on all saws in the future.SAFETY – When you take your finger off the trigger, the saw stops dead. Typical gas saws will continue to spin for a moment when you release the trigger. This is the number one reason you should wear chaps. Your arms tire and you bounce the blade off your leg. I’m not saying you don’t need chaps with this saw, but it’s far safer in this regard.THINGS TO CONSIDER - I popped the chain off a few times. Maybe 3 times during the 6-hour session. It’s important to realize that it’s best to pull the bar completely off when resetting the chain. The chain was only sketchy like this when trimming thin grabby branches. Limbs so thin they hang up on the chain. My gut instinct is that this happens a little more with this style chain than with a more traditional chain you see on saws without this system. Still, I would not give up the self-sharpening feature because of this. It’s far better to have a constantly sharp chain, for this minor inconvenience. It only takes a tool-free minute to get the chain back on.The handle is set at an angle. It can be a little weird for those acrobatic cuts, but it feels more ergonomic for most typical cuts. I adapted very quickly.Overall… I bought this saw because, yet again, the carb on my gas carb was fouled. My fault, but still a reoccurring issue over the years. I couldn’t make it work this time, even after two complete disassemblies and a dip in the ultrasonic cleaning tank. I screwed with it for 3 hours before I gave up and ordered a new carb. There will always be a need in my life for a gas saw, but combine this saw with a generator mounted on an ATV or lawn tractor, and it can’t be beaten. And as for battery saws… it’s too soon. Your electric truck will be a generator long before somebody invents a chainsaw battery that will last hours.

5.0 out of 5 stars I Am Impressed! IT GETS THE JOB DONE!
Reviewed in the United States on June 30, 2021
This review is for the Oregon CS 1500: 15 amp, with 18 inch bar.

I have used my share of gas operated chain saws, and no, this electric saw is not the same. Not the same fumes; mixing gas; buying gas, not the same weight; not the same cold start procedure and pulling a starting cord, over and over! And honestly, it is not the same power either. You cannot have it all, but if you are not in a hurry, and learn how the saw works, this little chain saw will click "all" of the dots! Yet, it would be helpful if the person that is using it has some knowledge on how to use a chainsaw.

If you know the general use of a chainsaw, you will know when to back off and allow the saw to cut at its pace. I found that it will cut continuously through whatever log or tree you desire to, but again, you need to know how to manage the power of the saw. In my belief, having this general knowledge alone will resolve most of the bad reviews. Sadly, I suspect operator era in some of these cases. These are some things I learned real quick about this chainsaw:

1. It has lots of power, but it will not cut as fast as most gas powered saws, but it will cut "continuously"! This is important for me, for if it did not have enough power to cut continuously, it would have been a deal breaker for me.
2. It has a great tool less chain tension mechanism; easy to keep clean and actually easy to access.
3. The auto chain oiler does a good job even when things are constant power for prolonged periods
4. The auto sharpener is okay, I guess but I did not use it that much.
5. It is lightweight in comparison to most gas models.
6. Distance from power source: Actually, I had over 125 feet of cord at one point and I honestly did not notice a power drop.

These are some things to keep in mind:

1. Each time that the chain came off, it was operator era on my part. Abrupt movement when unintentionally encountering a small sapling was one time and the other was when I was making a cut underneath a log and moved the bar sideways.

2. The chain can be placed on the bar going in the wrong direction, and this might be some peoples issue. I mistakenly placed the chain on wrong and believe me, it will not cut at all when you do this.

3. I read a couple reviews concerning the plastic build of the chainsaw and they showed pictures of melting plastic around the gear. It is quite possible that this happened, but I think if you work the saw in a method inside of its capabilities, it will not happen. If the chain is being oiled, and you are not continuously pushing the saw to the point that you hear the electrical (bog down) overload sound, then this might not happen. Such a practice will make things heat up on any engine!

4. The plastic build? Great, makes it lighter and cooler to the touch!

5. Price? Look at it this way, I have paid contractors to cut down and cut up trees around my home a few times. The smallest tree (for one tree) was 750 dollars, and upward to over $2000 for others. One of the trees I cut with this little chain saw was larger than the 750 dollar tree. So, this saw just paid for itself 7 times over!

Take a look at the attached pictures. Judging by the saw dust particles distance from the application, does it look like it was not cutting?
